Fatal A19 Crash Claims Life Days Before Christmas

A tragic incident on the A19 near Sunderland has resulted in the death of a pedestrian who was struck by two vehicles late Saturday evening. A man was killed when he was hit by two cars on the A19 near Sunderland, prompting a major emergency response and extended road closures that lasted more than 12 hours.

The incident occurred on Saturday, December 20, when emergency services were called to the southbound carriageway. For reasons yet to be established, a pedestrian was walking along the southbound carriageway when he was struck by a white Toyota Prius and a blue Volkswagen Sharan. The man, aged in his 60s, died at the scene.

The A19 between South Hylton and East Herrington is closed in both directions after a ‘serious’ crash. The road has been closed for over 11 hours, with Northumbria Police officers and multiple Forensic Collision Investigation Units on the scene.
