Bradley Cooper Returns to Directing with New Comedy and Mystery Project
Academy Award-Nominated Filmmaker Debuts Latest Directorial Effort
Bradley Cooper has returned to directing with ‘Is This Thing On?,’ a comedy film starring Will Arnett and Laura Dern, which co-wrote with Arnett. The film explores the world of stand-up comedy and centres on taking risks and realising that it’s never too late to follow your passions. Arnett plays Alex Novak, a father of two facing an impending divorce from his wife Tess, played by Dern, who seeks a new purpose in New York City’s comedy scene as their marriage unravels.
The Inspiration Behind the Story
A British comedian named John Bishop was the inspiration behind the story, according to the film’s co-writer. Cooper filmed scenes for the movie in the iconic Comedy Cellar in New York City, as well as other venues. The film represents Cooper’s third directorial effort, following his critically acclaimed work on ‘A Star Is Born’ and ‘Maestro’, which earned him multiple Academy Award nominations.
New Mystery Project on the Horizon
During a recent appearance at a BAFTA Life In Pictures event in London, Cooper told the audience: ‘There is something that’s been burning in me since Maestro and I’m writing it now’. Cooper talked multiple times about fear as a motivating factor for his work, saying he gets terrified at the beginning of a project. The 12-time Oscar nominee has not revealed details about this mysterious new project, leaving fans eagerly anticipating what the multi-talented filmmaker has in store.
