BBC Breakfast: Major Changes and Developments in 2025

BBC Breakfast Enters New Era with Scheduling Changes

BBC Breakfast is a British television breakfast news programme, produced by BBC News and broadcast on BBC One every morning from 6:00am. The flagship morning show has undergone significant changes throughout 2025, affecting how millions of UK viewers access their daily news.

The BBC no longer routinely simulcasts its breakfast news programme on the BBC News Channel as part of a pilot, with viewers watching or live streaming BBC News in the UK now seeing live rolling news and business between 6am and 9am Monday to Friday, starting Wednesday 15th January. Breakfast continues as normal on BBC One between 6am and 9:30 each weekday, where the majority of viewers watch the programme.

Behind-the-Scenes Workplace Review

The popular morning show has faced internal challenges in 2025. Editor Richard Frediani has been on leave since June 2025, after bullying allegations were made against him. The BBC drafted in a PwC consultant to help review the culture on Breakfast earlier this summer, with two sources saying editor Richard Frediani has been cleared of bullying allegations.

The BBC1 morning show won the first BAFTA in its 40-year history in May. Despite the behind-the-scenes tensions, the programme has continued delivering award-winning journalism to British audiences.

Programme Format and Content

The programme is broadcast daily and contains a mixture of news, sport, weather, business and feature items. Recent editions have covered major international stories, including natural disasters and breaking news events affecting global communities.

The simulcast is presented live from MediaCityUK in Salford, Greater Manchester. The show’s presenters, including Sally Nugent and Jon Kay, deliver comprehensive morning news coverage that sets the agenda for the day ahead.

Looking Forward

The scheduling changes represent a significant shift in how BBC News operates across its platforms. The change gives viewers a choice between rolling news and business on BBC News or Breakfast’s more informal approach to news on BBC One. As BBC Breakfast continues to evolve, it remains the UK’s most-watched morning news programme, maintaining its position as an essential part of British viewing habits whilst adapting to changing audience needs and broadcasting strategies.
