Alison Hammond’s New Role: Bringing Joy and Care to Vulnerable Communities
Beloved TV Presenter Takes on Meaningful New Role
Alison Hammond, one of Britain’s most cherished television personalities, has recently taken on a heartwarming new role that showcases her commitment to community service. Alison Hammond joins Specsavers Home Visits team as its newest recruit to help ensure thousands of people don’t miss out on important eye and hearing care. The 50-year-old This Morning and Great British Bake Off presenter has been shadowing optometrists on their rounds across the Midlands, bringing her trademark warmth and humour to vulnerable people who cannot leave their homes for appointments.
Making a Real Difference
During her time shadowing Specsavers Home Visits Optometrist, Julie Benson, on her rounds, Alison Hammond says: “I had no idea how much goes into a Specsavers Home Visit until I joined the team myself. We met so many amazing people who simply can’t get out, and being able to visit them in their homes makes such a difference. As well as assisting with the eye test and helping customers choose their glasses, I got to have a proper chat with them and hear all about their lives. Seeing the difference these services make genuinely touched me and made me realised this is so much more than a job.”
The campaign highlights a critical issue affecting vulnerable communities. Vision difficulties have also made 25% of people in the West Midlands more prone to accidents or injuring themselves and 25% say that the person they care for has lost confidence due to poor vision. Loneliness is also a key factor among people with eyesight and hearing difficulties, with 25% saying that the person they care for has experienced feelings of loneliness or isolation due to poor eyesight and 17% due to poor hearing.
Royal Connection Emerges
In other news, Hammond has revealed an unexpected friendship with Meghan Markle. A beaming Alison explained on Loose Women today: “Me and Megs are mates. We’re very good mates.” Alison, who looked stunning in a leopard print top, then went on to detail: “I’ll be honest with you, she ‘at-ed’ me in, so she knew who I was, first of all.” The connection came after Prince Harry lip-synced to a viral clip of Hammond from Great British Bake Off on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
A Busy Year for the Birmingham Star
As a prominent figure in television, Alison has had a busy year in 2025. Her work includes popular shows such as *The Great British Bake Off*, *This Morning*, and *Alison Hammond’s Florida Unpacked*. Despite her packed schedule, Hammond’s involvement with Specsavers demonstrates her dedication to using her platform for meaningful causes. The initiative serves as a reminder of how celebrity influence can shine a light on essential community services that might otherwise go unnoticed, potentially improving the quality of life for thousands of vulnerable individuals across the UK.
