Selena Gomez’s Transformative Journey: Merging Beauty Empire with Mental Health Advocacy

Leading the Charge in Mental Health Advocacy

Selena Gomez is set to host her second annual Rare Impact Fund Benefit: A Night of Radiance & Reflection on October 24 in Los Angeles. The star-studded benefit will feature live entertainment and special performances, with the primary goal of raising funds to support The Rare Impact Fund’s mission to mobilize $100 million for organizations increasing access to youth mental health services and education globally.

Known for her multifaceted career spanning music, acting, and entrepreneurship, Gomez has successfully integrated her mental health advocacy with her beauty line, Rare Beauty. Following her own bipolar diagnosis, she established Rare Beauty as a platform to initiate meaningful conversations about mental health, working to break down unrealistic standards of perfection and reduce stigma while providing people with access to essential resources.

Impact and Initiatives

The recent Rare Beauty 4th Annual Mental Health Summit brought together 175 thought leaders, beauty influencers, community members, Rare Impact College Ambassadors, and mental health advocates. The day-long event focused on interactive conversations around the power of community, self-acceptance, and mental health, featuring insights from some of the brightest minds in mental health—from experts to community members.

The impact of these initiatives has been substantial. For instance, the Mindful Life foundation, through two $150,000 grants from Rare Beauty, has expanded its services from 28 schools in six cities to 50 schools in 13 cities. The organization’s founder notes that Gomez’s endorsement has opened more doors for potential funding opportunities.

Personal Connection and Future Vision

At the recent Rare Impact Fund Benefit in L.A., Gomez opened up about her personal experiences, emphasizing the fund’s mission to raise $100 million for youth mental health services worldwide. One percent of all Rare Beauty sales are donated to the Rare Impact Fund. The star shared how her bipolar diagnosis changed everything for her, highlighting the importance of knowledge in getting the right support.

Gomez’s vision for Rare Beauty extends beyond cosmetics: “I want Rare to be a comfortable, safe place for people to find resources, to reach out to people if they need help,” she explained, aiming to create a unique space for everyone going through mental health challenges.
