Save the Children Continues Critical Humanitarian Work Amidst Global Challenges
A Century of Protecting Children in Crisis
Save the Children remains at the forefront of global humanitarian efforts as it navigates unprecedented challenges in 2025. The leading humanitarian organization for children has changed the lives of over 1 billion children in the U.S. and around the world, demonstrating its enduring commitment to protecting the world’s most vulnerable populations.
Responding to Multiple Global Emergencies
The organisation is currently addressing numerous humanitarian crises simultaneously. About 76,000 children are out of school due to unprecedented floods in southern Thailand, whilst Save the Children teams delivering emergency aid in northern Sumatra said children and families are in urgent need of food and shelter, with rain and rough seas hampering response efforts. In Sudan, the delivery from Nairobi was the largest aid consignment by an international NGO since March 2025, carrying 40 metric tonnes of essential medical supplies.
Innovative Solutions for Modern Challenges
Adapting to evolving humanitarian needs, Save the Children is introducing a pioneering approach to humanitarian assistance with the launch of the first-of-its-kind Bitcoin Fund, developed in partnership with digital asset leader Fortris. This innovative approach builds on their position as the first INGO to accept Bitcoin donations since 2013.
Meanwhile, Save the Children and Accenture mark 15 years of impactful partnership with a milestone $8.6 million multi-year grant to scale youth livelihood programs across seven countries, empowering young people with employment skills.
Facing Funding Challenges
Despite critical needs, the organisation faces significant obstacles. More than 1.8 million children will miss out on learning due to foreign aid cuts impacting Save the Children’s education programmes in over 20 countries. These funding reductions threaten vital services, with hundreds of Save the Children programs globally drastically changing the outlook for the 1 in 11 children around the world whose lives depend on the health care, nutrition, education and protection they provide.
Looking Ahead: The Importance of Continued Support
The significance of Save the Children’s work cannot be overstated in today’s increasingly complex humanitarian landscape. The number of children in humanitarian need has skyrocketed more than 20% since 2022 – the result of both protracted and new conflicts, a global hunger crisis, and natural and climate change-driven disasters. As crises multiply, sustained support for organisations like Save the Children becomes ever more critical to ensuring millions of children worldwide receive the protection, education, and care they desperately need.
