Formula 1 Unveils Historic 2025 Calendar: 24 Races Across Five Continents for 75th Anniversary Season

A Milestone Year for Formula 1
The FIA and Formula 1 have announced the calendar for the 2025 FIA Formula One World Championship, featuring another 24-round season as the championship marks its 75th anniversary.
In a significant change, Australia will return to its traditional season-opening position for the first time since 2019. Melbourne, which has hosted the season’s first round 22 times since 1996, will kick off the championship on March 14-16, followed immediately by the Chinese Grand Prix on March 21-23.
Calendar Highlights and Strategic Changes
Due to Ramadan occurring throughout March in 2025, the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix have been moved to April. The calendar demonstrates improved geographical efficiency, with Japan following Australia and China, followed by predominantly European races over the summer and the Americas during the Autumn, before Qatar and Abu Dhabi conclude the season back-to-back.
Sprint Events and Major Venues
The 2025 season will feature six Sprint events, with Shanghai, Miami, Spa, Austin, Sao Paulo and Qatar all hosting Sprint races. The calendar includes several long-term commitments, with contracts already in place for key venues including Silverstone (2034), Madrid (2035), Bahrain (2036), Australia (2037), and Miami and Austria (both 2041).
Sustainability and Logistics
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem emphasized that the 2025 calendar demonstrates their collective mission of meeting sustainability objectives through the regionalization of events, noting the importance of environmental considerations and the well-being of traveling staff.
Looking Ahead
Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali highlighted the significance of 2025 as the sport’s 75th Anniversary year, stating that this legacy and experience has enabled them to deliver such a strong calendar. The championship will visit 24 incredible venues around the world, delivering top-class racing, hospitality, and entertainment to millions of fans worldwide.
