A Year of Achievements and Recognition
Colin Farrell has earned his first Emmy nomination for his performance in HBO’s The Penguin, a spinoff of the 2022 superhero movie The Batman. The show has received significant acclaim, garnering 24 nominations overall, making it a strong contender for the awards.
Adding to his accolades, Farrell will receive the prestigious Golden Icon Award at the 2025 Zurich Film Festival, recognizing both his performance in Ballad of a Small Player and his career achievements. The actor will attend the festival on September 27 for the award presentation and gala premiere.
Upcoming Projects
The latter half of 2025 will see Farrell in two major film releases. His first project, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, directed by Kogonada, features Margot Robbie as his co-star. The film follows two strangers who embark on a fantastical journey that brings them unexpectedly close.
His second feature of the year, The Ballad of a Small Player, will premiere on Netflix on October 29 after a limited theatrical release on October 15. Directed by Edward Berger and written by Rowan Joffé, the film follows a gambler starting a new life in Macau.
Future Endeavors
Looking ahead, Farrell is in talks to star in a film based on Sgt. Rock for Warner Bros. and DC Studios, which will be part of their DC Universe franchise. The project will be directed by Luca Guadagnino and written by Justin Kuritzkes.
Farrell’s continued success reflects his status as one of Hollywood’s most accomplished actors, having received various accolades including three Golden Globe Awards, one SAG Award, and nominations for an Academy Award and an Emmy Award. Time magazine has recognized him as one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2023.
