Sir Michael Caine Makes Surprising Return to Cinema at 92 for Last Witch Hunter Sequel

Legendary Actor Returns to the Screen
Michael Caine is set to make a remarkable return to acting, coming out of retirement at the age of 92 for a sequel to “The Last Witch Hunter” at Lionsgate, with Vin Diesel returning to headline the project.
The veteran British actor had previously announced his retirement at age 90, with his last performance being in “The Great Escaper,” a biographical film about a World War II veteran breaking out of a care home to attend the D-Day anniversary commemoration.
The Unexpected Comeback
While the deal hasn’t been finalised yet, Caine is expected to reprise his role as Dolan, a priest who assists Diesel’s warrior Kaulder as he fights to stop a plague propagated by a witch queen. This decision comes after Caine had concluded his career on a high note, following 73 years of professional acting.
A Passion Project’s Revival
Despite receiving mostly negative reviews initially, “The Last Witch Hunter” has gained significant popularity on various rental services over the past decade. According to Adam Fogelson, Lionsgate Motion Picture’s group chair, the film has “grown into a global fan favorite, with audiences continuing to discover and rewatch it across every platform,” making it clear there was appetite for more stories in this world.
Distinguished Career
Caine’s illustrious career has included collaborations with Christopher Nolan in the “Batman” films, “Inception,” and “Interstellar.” His achievements include two Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actor for his performances in “Hannah and Her Sisters” (1986) and “Cider House Rules” (2002). The actor was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2000.
The project is currently being fast-tracked through development at Lionsgate and Diesel’s production banner One Race Films, marking what could be one of the most unexpected comebacks in recent cinema history.
