New Generation of Magic: HBO’s Harry Potter Series Unveils Star-Studded Cast for 2027 Premiere

A New Chapter Begins at Hogwarts

Warner Bros. is breathing new life into J.K. Rowling’s beloved magical world with HBO’s fresh adaptation of the Harry Potter saga, which will adapt each book into a full season.

The New Golden Trio

Leading the new generation are young actors Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, stepping into the iconic roles previously portrayed by Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson.

Veteran Talent Joins the Magical World

Six-time Emmy winner John Lithgow will take on the role of Professor Albus Dumbledore, the Headmaster of Hogwarts and arguably the greatest wizard in magical history who leads the fight against Voldemort and his dark forces. The prestigious faculty at Hogwarts will also feature Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Luke Thallon as Quirinis Quirrell, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, and Louise Brealey as Rolanda Hooch.

Production Details and Release

The series began filming on July 14, 2025, at Leavesden, with Oscar-winning costume designer Holly Waddington on board, and Killing Eve scribe Laura Neal joining the writers’ room. Production is expected to continue through the next year, with the series scheduled for release in 2027. While fans eagerly await the first trailer, they’ll likely have to wait until 2026 for a glimpse of the magical world.

A Fresh Vision for a Beloved Story

The reboot represents a complete recasting of the major roles from Rowling’s first novel, with the adult actors often being much younger than their film counterparts, staying truer to the characters’ ages in the books. The series promises to be a faithful adaptation of the beloved Harry Potter books, with each season bringing the magical world to both new and existing audiences, streaming exclusively on HBO Max where available, including upcoming launch markets in Germany, Italy, and the UK.
