Nina Warhurst Makes Historic Move from BBC Breakfast to Lead BBC News at One

A New Chapter in Broadcasting
Nina Warhurst has announced her departure from BBC Breakfast after 7 years, where she first began reporting in 2018 and later became the show’s lead business presenter in 2020.
In a significant career advancement, Warhurst has been appointed as the lead presenter of the BBC News at One from April 2025. The announcement was warmly received by BBC boss for Breakfast and News, Richard Frediani, who expressed delight in welcoming her to the team in Salford.
Distinguished Career and Expertise
Throughout her career, Warhurst has demonstrated remarkable versatility, having interviewed three Prime Ministers at Downing Street. Her journalism has taken her across the globe, including assignments in Russia, Argentina, Brazil, Azerbaijan, Israel, and the West Bank. In one notable instance, she found herself stranded with the Royal Navy off the Libyan coast during Colonel Gaddafi’s fall.
She has earned recognition for her analytical reporting on economic trends and ability to simplify complex financial matters, receiving RTS Awards for her business journalism and contributions to consumer awareness.
Personal Journey and Future Prospects
Announcing her transition on social media, Warhurst reflected on her time at BBC Breakfast, noting she’ll be “hanging up the high-viz and hairnet for a wee while.” She reminisced about her beginnings at BBC Breakfast, when she started as a heavily pregnant and nervous reporter, eventually securing a permanent position as the country emerged from lockdown.
The position became available following Anna Foster’s departure to join BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, where she will be one of the main presenters following Mishal Husain’s exit in December. When not on air, Warhurst resides in Manchester with her husband Ted Fraser and their three children, where she remains active in local community projects.
