GOV.UK Unveils Major Digital Transformation: New App Launch and Enhanced Services in 2025

Digital Revolution in Government Services
As the digital centre of government, GOV.UK serves the public, central government departments and the wider public sector. In a significant move forward, July 2025 marked the launch of the trial GOV.UK App, bringing public services directly to citizens’ pockets.
Modernisation and Service Enhancement
The platform is undergoing a comprehensive visual update to accommodate its expansion into new channels, including the GOV.UK App and the GOV.UK Wallet. These changes are being gradually implemented across the website and other GOV.UK products.
The government’s vision for 2025 focuses on delivering a transformed, more efficient digital government that exceeds public expectations. This includes creating user-centric policies and public services that are more efficient, fit for the digital age, and centered on user needs.
Data Protection and Privacy Updates
A significant milestone was reached with the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, which received Royal Assent on 19 June 2025. This comprehensive legislation enables the growth of digital verification services and new Smart Data schemes, while introducing important changes to the UK’s data protection and privacy legislation.
Digital Service Improvements
The government currently provides thousands of services, with a strategic focus on the Top 75 services identified based on usage frequency, criticality, and transformation potential. Currently, 15 services have achieved the ‘great’ standard, with an ambitious goal to increase this to 50 by 2025.
Investment and Future Outlook
The government has demonstrated its commitment to digital transformation through significant financial investment, including an additional £8bn allocated for digital, data and technology transformation by 2025. As the country continues to adapt to post-pandemic demands and increasing service requirements, the focus remains on transforming digital capabilities and delivering world-class efficient digital services to the public, despite significant barriers to transformation.
