Indianapolis in 2025: A City on the Rise with Major Development Projects and Cultural Growth

A Transformative Year for Indianapolis

As Indianapolis enters 2025, the city builds on its successful 2024 performance in public safety, development, and large-scale events management.

Major Development Projects Reshaping the City

At the heart of downtown, a landmark $600-million transformation of the former Circle Centre Mall is underway. The project, led by Hendricks Commercial Properties, will create a walkable, mixed-use district featuring open-air retail, dining spaces, 300 residential units, office space, and over 100,000 square feet of public gathering areas. Phase one commenced in 2025 and is set for completion by 2030, promising to enhance foot traffic and complement nearby attractions.

In the healthcare sector, Indiana University Health is investing $4.3 billion in a new downtown medical campus. This historic healthcare investment includes a new 864-bed, three-tower facility and a 326,000-square-foot medical education and research building, scheduled to open by late 2025.

Events and Entertainment

Indianapolis’s tourism sector is experiencing significant growth, building on the momentum from 2024’s successful hosting of the NBA All-Star Game and Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour. The 2025 calendar features major events including the WNBA All-Star Weekend, Indiana Black Expo, FDIC International, Gen Con, and the Big Ten Tournament.

Economic Growth and Business Development

The city’s economic landscape continues to diversify, with recent corporate relocations including OTAVA and Ice Miller LLP moving their headquarters downtown in 2025. Indianapolis maintains a balanced demand base across healthcare, legal, corporate, sports, and leisure sectors, supported by a diverse economy anchored in healthcare, advanced manufacturing, logistics, and a growing tech sector.

Convention and Tourism Infrastructure

Indianapolis is strengthening its position as a premier convention destination. With over 5,500 hotel rooms soon to be connected to the convention center via skywalk, the city will rank among the most walkable convention cities nationwide. This expansion is projected to generate $232 million in new events and create nearly 2,900 jobs, while enabling the city to host multiple citywide events simultaneously.
