Co-op Live: Manchester’s Revolutionary Arena Dominates European Entertainment Scene

A Record-Breaking First Year
Since its opening in May 2024, Co-op Live has demonstrated remarkable success, selling over 1.1 million tickets and generating $115.5 million in gross revenues, surpassing both Madrid’s Movistar Arena and London’s O2 in terms of ticket sales revenue.
Located in Manchester’s Etihad Campus, the state-of-the-art venue boasts 32 bars, restaurants and lounges, and claims the largest floor space of any comparable UK arena.
Sustainability and Innovation
Sustainability has been at the core of the project since inception. The venue was designed to support Manchester’s Zero Carbon 2038 commitments, featuring numerous eco-friendly initiatives. It operates entirely on electricity, avoiding fossil fuels, with renewable energy from the National Grid supplemented by an extensive 10,500m² rooftop solar array.
Local Economic Impact
The project has maintained strong local ties, with approximately 80% of construction work completed by businesses from Manchester and the Northwest region. Nearly £200 million of the funding has been invested directly in the local community.
Entertainment Excellence
The venue has confirmed over 120 events in its first year, primarily music concerts, with ticket sales described as ‘phenomenal’ by management. The arena’s appeal extends beyond Manchester, with 30% of attendees traveling more than 100 kilometers to attend events, and 50% traveling more than 50 kilometers.
Future Developments
Looking ahead, Co-op Live continues to expand its offerings with recently approved plans for a new canalside development. This two-storey structure will feature a café, bar, kitchen, and merchandise store, accommodating up to 600 people. The space will serve as both a second standalone events venue and pre-event access area for ticket holders.
As Manchester’s Mayor Andy Burnham noted, the venue has positioned the city in a ‘dominating position on the music map,’ creating a legacy that will attract visitors ‘for decades to come.’
