Co-op Live: Manchester’s Revolutionary Arena Transforms UK Entertainment Landscape

A New Era in Live Entertainment

Co-op Live, Manchester’s groundbreaking indoor arena located in the Etihad Campus, has revolutionized the UK entertainment scene since its opening in May 2024. The venue features 32 bars, restaurants and lounges, boasting the largest floor space of any comparable UK arena.

Record-Breaking Performance

In its first operational year through April 2025, the venue has demonstrated exceptional performance, selling over 1.1 million tickets and generating more than $115 million in gross revenues, surpassing both Madrid’s Movistar Arena and London’s O2 in terms of ticket sales revenue.

Sustainability and Innovation

Sustainability stands at the core of the project, supporting Manchester’s Zero Carbon 2038 commitments. The venue operates entirely on electricity, eschewing fossil fuels, with renewable energy from the National Grid complemented by an extensive photovoltaic array covering 10,500m² of roof.

Local Economic Impact

The project has significantly benefited the local economy, with approximately 80% of construction work completed by businesses from Manchester and the Northwest region. Nearly £200 million of the funding has been invested directly in the local community.

Future Developments

The venue continues to expand its offerings with recently approved plans for a new canalside development. This two-storey structure will include a café, bar, kitchen, and merchandise store, capable of hosting 600 people. The space will serve as a second standalone events venue and will be available for community and private hire use.

Star-Studded Programming

Co-op Live has secured over 120 events in its first year, predominantly music concerts, with ticket sales described as ‘phenomenal’ by management. The venue attracts visitors from across the UK, with 30% of attendees traveling more than 100 kilometers to attend events.

Industry Recognition

The venue has garnered praise for its innovative sound design, with industry veteran Liam Gallagher comparing it to New York’s Madison Square Garden. During its opening, Elbow frontman Guy Garvey celebrated the arena’s design as a significant addition to Manchester’s music scene.
