The Chase Makes Headlines: NASCAR’s Championship Revival and Quiz Show Success

NASCAR’s The Chase Returns to Motorsport

NASCAR announced Monday that The Chase will return as the 2026 championship format, with Hall of Fame drivers and active racers in support. This marks a significant shift in how champions will be crowned in America’s premier stock car racing series.

The system will return to a 10-race format consisting of the top 16 drivers in the regular-season standings. There will be no driver eliminations every three races, winning will be incentivised and its name will return to “The Chase.” The driver with the most points at the Nov. 8 finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway will be the champion.

Why NASCAR Changed Its Format

The Chase coming back to NASCAR is the result of a process that neared 18 months of work, all headed by Tim Clark, NASCAR’s executive vice president, chief brand officer. Clark assembled a wide-ranging group of industry representatives from former drivers to current drivers and media representatives to form a committee that oversaw potential alterations to NASCAR’s championship format.

A race victory win will now earn the winning driver 55 points, up from 40 points, to reward drivers who battle for wins instead of settling for a solid points days. NASCAR hopes it encourages aggressive racing and strong team performance. This change addresses fan frustration with the previous elimination-style format.

The Chase Quiz Show Continues Success

Across the Atlantic, The Chase quiz show remains a television phenomenon. With a regular audience of three to five million, The Chase is one of the most successful and longest running game shows on UK television and one of ITV’s most successful daytime shows ever. The show has been nominated seven times at the National Television Awards, winning in 2016, 2017, 2019 and 2024.

On Friday 2 January 2026, ITV broadcasts The Chase! The upcoming episode promises to be an exciting one, as Bradley Walsh returns to host another round of thrilling trivia. As of 2026, there are six chasers: Mark Labbett, Shaun Wallace, Anne Hegerty, Paul Sinha, Jenny Ryan, and Darragh Ennis.

Significance for Audiences

Both iterations of “The Chase” demonstrate the enduring appeal of competitive formats that reward consistency and excellence. NASCAR’s decision to return to The Chase format reflects a broader trend of sports organisations listening to fan feedback whilst honouring tradition. For quiz show enthusiasts, The Chase continues to provide entertaining, fast-paced trivia that has made it an international franchise success.

These developments signal that whether on the racetrack or in the studio, The Chase brand represents competition at its finest, delivering excitement and unpredictability that keeps audiences engaged week after week.
