New Year’s Day Parade 2026: Global Celebrations Ring in the New Year

A Grand Tradition Continues

New Year’s Day parades have become iconic celebrations worldwide, marking the beginning of each year with spectacular displays of culture, music, and community spirit. As 2026 begins, cities across the globe are preparing to host these vibrant events that bring together performers and spectators in joyous celebration.

London’s New Year’s Day Parade Returns

The 2026 London New Year’s Day Parade will start at 1pm on Thursday, January 1 2026 in Green Park and will finish in Westminster at around 3.30pm. Having been a New Year staple in the capital for almost 4 decades, each year the event attracts around half a million people who line London’s streets to watch the procession. The annual event rings in the new year in the city with live music, dancers, marching bands, cheerleaders, and a whole programme of outdoor and indoor performances.

Among the participants in this year’s parade are: Singer Heather Small and Eurovision contestant Sam Ryder, along with George Michael, Elton John, Spice Girls and ABBA tribute acts. In addition to representatives from London’s 32 boroughs, the parade typically features numerous marching bands from around the world, dancers, acrobats, cheerleaders, and musicians, each contributing to make this grand celebration special with 10,000 performers.

America’s Rose Parade Tradition

ABC will welcome the New Year with live coverage of the 137th Rose Parade presented by Honda from Pasadena, California on Thursday, January 1, 2026, at 11 a.m. ET, continuing the network’s longstanding tradition of bringing one of the nation’s most iconic New Year’s celebrations to audiences nationwide. This year’s iconic procession will feature 39 rose-covered floats, 19 marching bands and 17 equestrian teams from around the world. The 2026 Rose Parade will be led by Grand Marshal Magic Johnson, with the theme “The Magic in Teamwork.”

Philadelphia’s Mummers Parade Celebrates Milestones

The spectacle was recently named the best holiday parade in the country by USA Today and will be celebrating several milestones in 2026, including 125 years of the New Year’s Day proceedings, 50 years of the Mummers Museum and — of course — America’s 250th birthday. During the always festive and often rambunctious 125-year-old tradition known as the Philadelphia Mummers Parade, 10,000 adults and children dressed in lavish colorful costumes twirl, sashay, pirouette and strut down one of the city’s most prominent streets on New Year’s Day.

Significance and Community Impact

These New Year’s Day parades serve as more than entertainment spectacles. The purpose of the New Year’s Day Parade is to raise funds for charity. They bring communities together, showcase international talent, and create lasting memories for millions of participants and spectators. Whether in London, Pasadena, or Philadelphia, these celebrations embody the hope and unity that defines the start of a new year, offering free or accessible ways for people to mark the occasion with joy and optimism.
