Spider-Man: Brand New Day – Tom Holland’s Next Chapter in the MCU

A Fresh Start for the Web-Slinger

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is an upcoming American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man, co-produced by Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios, and intended to be the 38th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and the fourth film in the MCU Spider-Man film series following Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). The title is derived from the 2008 comic book storyline “Brand New Day”.

Production Complete and Release Date Confirmed

Filming has officially wrapped on Spider-Man: Brand New Day, a project director Destin Daniel Cretton described on Instagram as “the most rewarding I’ve ever been a part of.” The film is scheduled to be released in the United States on July 31, 2026, as part of Phase Six of the MCU. The film stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker / Spider-Man alongside Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Sadie Sink, Liza Colón-Zayas, Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo, Michael Mando, Tramell Tillman, and Marvin Jones III.

Street-Level Storytelling and New Allies

Spider-Man: Brand New Day picks up after the life-altering events that erased Peter Parker’s identity from the world’s memory, with no one remembering who he is or what he’s sacrificed as Peter tries to step away from being Spider-Man altogether. The ending of No Way Home was a promise to audiences that they would see Holland as a “proper Spider-Man” for the first time, with the character on his own and fighting street-level crime in New York City rather than dealing with “world-ending events”.

Bernthal’s Frank Castle playing a major role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day marks the first time that a Marvel Netflix character will feature in a Marvel Studios film. Mark Ruffalo’s casting was confirmed with the start of filming in August 2025, reprising his MCU role as Bruce Banner / Hulk in the film.

Why This Film Matters

Spider-Man: Brand New Day represents a significant shift in the MCU’s Spider-Man franchise. After the multiversal chaos of No Way Home, this instalment promises a more grounded, character-driven narrative focused on Peter Parker rebuilding his life from scratch. Just ahead of Avengers: Doomsday, Spider-Man: Brand New Day will treat fans to an epic, unprecedented MCU crossover. The integration of street-level heroes like the Punisher alongside established Marvel characters signals Marvel Studios’ commitment to exploring different tones within the superhero genre, whilst maintaining connections to the broader MCU narrative tapestry heading into Phase Six.
