Harrison Ford to Be Honoured with Prestigious SAG-AFTRA Life Achievement Award
Hollywood Icon Receives Highest Acting Honour
Iconic actor Harrison Ford has been named the 61st recipient of SAG-AFTRA’s highest honour: the SAG-AFTRA Life Achievement Award for his career and humanitarian accomplishments. The announcement, made in December 2025, marks yet another milestone in Ford’s illustrious six-decade career in film and television.
He will be presented with the union’s tribute at the 32nd Annual Actor Awards, which will stream live on Netflix on Sunday, March 1. The recognition celebrates Ford’s legendary status as the man behind two of cinema’s most beloved characters—Han Solo from Star Wars and Indiana Jones.
A Career Defined by Iconic Roles
Ford’s impact on popular culture cannot be overstated. Ford’s extensive and acclaimed filmography includes Blade Runner (1982) and Blade Runner 2049 (2017), where his portrayal of Rick Deckard remains among his most celebrated dramatic performances. Additional highlights include Witness (1985), for which he received a Best Actor Academy Award nomination, The Mosquito Coast (1986), Working Girl (1988), Presumed Innocent (1990), The Fugitive (1993), and Captain America: Brave New World (2025).
He recently wrapped his role in the Apple TV+ series Shrinking and starred as President Ross, aka Red Hulk, in “Captain America: Brave New World,” which hit theatres on February 14. He was an Emmy nominee last year for Apple TV’s “Shrinking.”
Beyond Acting: Environmental and Humanitarian Advocacy
Harrison Ford has been a prominent environmental and humanitarian advocate for decades, serving as vice-chair of Conservation International and lending his voice to global conservation efforts. His on-the-ground activism has included high-profile environmental inquiries in Indonesia and an impassioned 2019 address at the United Nations Climate Action Summit, earning him multiple species named in his honour and the inaugural E.O. Wilson Legacy Award for Transformative Conservation Leadership in 2025.
Industry Response and Ford’s Gratitude
SAG-AFTRA President Sean Astin said, “Harrison Ford is a singular presence in American life; an actor whose iconic characters have shaped world culture. His career has been endlessly exciting, always returning to his love of acting.”
“I am deeply honoured to be chosen as this year’s recipient of the SAG-AFTRA Life Achievement Award,” Ford said. “To be acknowledged by my fellow actors means a great deal to me.” Ford has previously won the Critic’s Choice Career Achievement Award (2024), Golden Globes Cecil B. DeMille Award (2002) and the AFI Life Achievement Award (2000).
Significance for Cinema and Culture
The SAG-AFTRA Life Achievement Award represents the culmination of recognition for an actor whose influence extends far beyond the screen. Ford’s characters have shaped generations of filmgoers, whilst his environmental advocacy demonstrates the power of celebrity to drive meaningful change. As one of cinema’s most enduring leading men continues to work actively in his eighties, this honour acknowledges not only past achievements but also Ford’s ongoing commitment to his craft and causes he champions. The March ceremony will undoubtedly be a celebration of a remarkable career that has left an indelible mark on both Hollywood and popular culture worldwide.
