Where Was Tinsel Town Filmed? Exploring the Picturesque Yorkshire Locations

Yorkshire Takes Centre Stage in New Christmas Film

Tinsel Town is a 2025 British christmas comedy film directed by Chris Foggin and starring Kiefer Sutherland and Rebel Wilson. For film enthusiasts and location spotters alike, the question ‘where was Tinsel Town filmed?’ has generated considerable interest since the movie’s release on Sky Cinema. The answer showcases the beauty and charm of England’s North, with principal photography taking place in Yorkshire in January 2025.

Knaresborough: The Heart of Tinsel Town

The picturesque market town of Knaresborough served as a primary filming location for the festive comedy. Filming took place in several picturesque parts of Knaresborough, including Castlegate, Riverside and Green Dragon Yard, with the town selected for its classic “chocolate-box” appearance. The production team took advantage of multiple iconic spots throughout the town, with filming locations including the bowling green at Knaresborough Castle as the Christmas Fair, Gallons Steps as the Santa Run start, Green Dragon Yard as the site of the burglary, and High Bridge as the location of the “Welcome to Stoneford” sign.

Additional Yorkshire Filming Locations

The production extended beyond Knaresborough to capture other charming Yorkshire settings. The team filmed the interior of the theatre in Wakefield and built interiors in the fantastic Versa Leeds Studios, then built the world around it in Wetherby and Knaresborough. Other filming locations included the Cricketer’s Arms in Horbury as the interior of the public house and Dewsbury Town Hall as the interior of the courthouse. Parts of the production also featured Harrogate and Leeds, with the film mainly shot in Yorkshire, including Knaresborough, Harrogate, Wetherby, and Harewood, with one short scene in Seven Dials, London.

Why Director Chris Foggin Chose Yorkshire

Director Chris Foggin was deliberate in his choice of filming location. He noted it “kind of needed a chocolate box, romantic feel to it, and having spent a lot of time in Yorkshire throughout my film career, I know it’s such a beautiful place to be. There was only one place to set this film really, and it had to be Yorkshire.” The timing proved fortuitous as scenes were shot in January and February when the Christmas lights were still up, with the council allowing this.

Community Reception and Film Release

The Yorkshire communities embraced the production with enthusiasm. Hollywood descended on Knaresborough for around two weeks in February as filming for Tinsel Town took place. Local businesses and residents cooperated fully with the production, and the film was first released in the United States in theaters and VOD on 28 November 2025, and was released on Sky Cinema in the United Kingdom on 5 December 2025. For Yorkshire residents and visitors, the film offers a unique opportunity to see their beloved towns transformed into the fictional village where Hollywood meets British pantomime tradition, potentially boosting tourism to these already charming destinations.
