Experienced Striker Chuks Aneke Makes Surprise Move to Shrewsbury Town

Breaking: Shrewsbury Town Secure Experienced Forward

Shrewsbury Town have confirmed the signing of free agent Chuks Aneke, with the 32-year-old joining the club after leaving Charlton Athletic at the end of last season.

Reunion with Former Manager

The move sees Aneke reunite with Shrews boss Michael Appleton, under whom he previously played at Charlton Athletic, where the pair worked together for 28 games between September 2023 and the end of January 2024.

Speaking about the move, Aneke expressed his excitement: “I have come here and seen the stadium. Fantastic people, I am excited to get going. I had the gaffer at Charlton, we had a good time there and got to know each other. He got in contact, and I have come here, and I want to get stuck in.”

Impressive Career Background

The striker brings considerable experience to Shrewsbury, having made just under 350 league appearances throughout his career. His versatility is demonstrated by his past roles, including an unconventional spell as a central midfielder during his time at Waregem in Belgium.

His most notable spell came at MK Dons, where he netted 30 goals in 84 league appearances. At Charlton, he enjoyed his best season in 2020-21, scoring 15 goals in 38 league games, though his recent form has been more modest with just three goals in 43 league games during his second stint.

Impact at New Club

Aneke has already shown his commitment to the club, having attended Shrewsbury’s recent 3-1 victory over Barnet alongside chairman Roland Wycherley and chief executive Liam Dooley. He joins recent attacking recruits Ismeal Kabia and Bradley Ihionvien, who have already made positive impacts at the club.

The signing represents a significant boost for Shrewsbury Town as they look to strengthen their attacking options and push for success in League Two this season.
