Amy Dowden’s Inspiring Journey: From Cancer Survivor to Strictly Comeback Queen

A Remarkable Recovery Journey
Amy Dowden has received the exciting news that she will be returning to Strictly Come Dancing for the 2025 series, following the February 2024 announcement that showed ‘no evidence of disease’ at her latest health check.
The beloved dancer, who experienced significant challenges during her recovery, now describes herself as a ‘newer, stronger version’ of herself as she prepares for her return to the show.
Overcoming Adversity
Diagnosed with grade three breast cancer in 2023 after finding a lump before her honeymoon, Dowden initially thought her life would quickly return to normal. She admits she was ‘deluded’ in thinking she would be back dancing on Strictly in no time.
The recovery journey wasn’t easy, with Dowden revealing she ‘hit an all-time low’ after finishing treatment, transforming from a ‘super fit young lady used to the spotlight and hair and makeup to not liking to look in the mirror.’
Looking Ahead with Renewed Strength
Now preparing for her ninth year on the show, Dowden shared her gratitude on Instagram, stating that ‘this show means everything to me’ and has helped her through both highs and all-time lows, describing it as ‘pure magic and good for the soul.’
The Welsh dancer has learned to be ‘kinder’ to herself in recovery, acknowledging that while ‘it’s been a long road,’ she feels like she’s back – but as a newer, stronger version of herself.
Looking ahead to her return, Dowden has adopted a healthier perspective: ‘Last year, I put so much pressure on myself after returning back after cancer. I’ve taken that pressure away from me now and I can’t wait to just enjoy it.’
