Cargo Ship Grounds in Teignmouth as New Year Begins

A cargo ship, the Scot Pioneer, has run aground in Teignmouth Harbour, causing disruption to local traffic. The incident occurred off the south Devon coast at approximately 17:25 GMT. The vessel, registered in Inverness, Scotland, has eight crew members aboard. Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries or damage to the ship.

The Scot Pioneer appears to be stuck approximately 50 meters (164 feet) from Shaldon beach. Eyewitness reports indicate that the vessel is firmly lodged in the seabed. The coastguard has stated that efforts will be made to refloat the ship during the next high tide, expected at around 02:00 on New Year’s Day. A harbour tug named Teign C will assist in this operation, aiming to return the vessel to the dock safely.
