Nina Warhurst Makes Historic Move as Lead Presenter of BBC News at One in Salford

A New Chapter in Broadcasting
Nina Warhurst has announced her departure from BBC Breakfast after 7 years with the morning news show, where she initially began reporting in 2018 before being promoted to lead business presenter in 2020.
The move comes as part of a significant change within BBC News, with BBC News at One having relocated from London to MediaCityUK in Salford and being extended from 30 minutes to one hour. The first hour-long programme was broadcast on 3 June 2024, marking a historic shift in British broadcasting.
Breaking New Ground
This transition represents a milestone as the first regular national news bulletin on the BBC to broadcast regularly from outside London. Warhurst, who will be leading the Salford team, has a personal connection to the area, having grown up just half a mile from where she’ll now be presenting.
The programme, which broadcasts weekdays at 1:00pm on BBC One and the BBC News channel, now runs for 60 minutes, including a ten-minute regional news bulletin at approximately 1:35pm.
A Distinguished Career
Warhurst brings substantial experience to her new role, having interviewed three Prime Ministers at Downing Street during her time as a Political Correspondent. Her journalism career has taken her across the globe, including assignments in Russia, Argentina, Brazil, Azerbaijan, Israel and the West Bank.
BBC boss for Breakfast and News, Richard Frediani, has welcomed the appointment, describing Warhurst as “a brilliant addition to the team in Salford.” While taking on this new role, Warhurst has assured viewers she will still occasionally appear on BBC Breakfast’s red sofa.
Looking to the Future
As the programme’s lead presenter, Warhurst will be supported by a pool of presenters from across BBC Breakfast and BBC News who will appear in her absence. This new chapter in her career represents not only a personal achievement but also reflects the BBC’s commitment to representing and serving all parts of the UK.
