Fernando Alonso’s 2025 F1 Season: A Mix of Challenges and Optimism at Aston Martin

Current Status and Recent Achievements
Fernando Alonso currently holds 12th position in the 2025 drivers’ standings with 30 points, slightly behind his teammate Lance Stroll who is 11th. The Aston Martin team currently occupies sixth place in the constructors’ championship.
The team recently achieved its best result of the season at the Hungarian Grand Prix, with both Alonso and Stroll finishing in the points. Despite a minor setback when Alonso missed Free Practice 1 due to a back injury, he bounced back strongly, qualifying fifth for the race and sharing the third row with his teammate Stroll.
Technical Development and Team Progress
After securing eight podiums in his first season with Aston Martin, Alonso has made history by becoming the first driver to reach 400 Grand Prix starts. The team’s prospects have been boosted by the addition of technical legend Adrian Newey in 2025, raising hopes for future victories.
The team has undergone significant infrastructure improvements at their Silverstone base, including the installation of a new wind tunnel and simulator, which are expected to enhance performance.
Looking Ahead
With 10 races remaining in the season and showing improved form, Alonso remains optimistic about the second half of the year. The team is currently just 18 points behind Williams, and as Alonso stated, “We really needed this result.”
Alonso’s commitment to the team’s success was evident when he personally reached out to Adrian Newey about joining Aston Martin. As he revealed, “I was hoping Adrian would join when he decided to stop with his previous team. To start with, you dream that it can be a possibility.” He actively participated in the recruitment process by consulting with team principal Lawrence Stroll and CEO Martin Whitmarsh about contacting Newey.
