The entertainment world is mourning the loss of Peter Greene, the acclaimed character actor best known for his chilling portrayal of villains in some of the 1990s’ most memorable films. Peter Greene, a New York character actor who often played villains and criminals, including Zed in Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Pulp Fiction,’ was found dead in his New York apartment on Friday. He was 60.
A Career Defined by Memorable Villain Roles
Peter Greene was an American actor whose intense screen presence made him one of the most recognisable character actors of his generation. His role as the sadistic security guard Zed in ‘Pulp Fiction’ became one of his most memorable. In 1994, he played the memorable villain in Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Pulp Fiction,’ and a leading villain opposite Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz in ‘The Mask.’
Born in Montclair, New Jersey, Greene landed some of his first leading roles in ‘Laws of Gravity’ in 1992 and ‘Clean, Shaven’ in 1993. Greene trained at Lee Strasberg’s studio. Throughout his career, he appeared in nearly 100 films and television shows, including roles in ‘The Usual Suspects,’ ‘Training Day,’ and various TV series.

‘Nobody played a bad guy better than Peter,’ Edwards told NBC. ‘But he also had, you know, a gentle side that most people never saw, and a heart as big as gold,’ said Edwards. Greene was found dead inside his Lower East Side apartment, manager Gregg Edwards said. He did not disclose a cause of death.
A Lasting Legacy in Cinema
By the time of his death, he had been given a role in an upcoming Mickey Rourke movie called ‘Mascots’, and was involved in at least two other projects. According to Edwards, Greene had been sober for at least a couple of years. Peter Greene’s contribution to cinema, particularly his ability to bring complex villains to life with authenticity and depth, ensures his performances will continue to captivate audiences for generations to come. His death marks the end of an era for character actors who specialised in portraying the darker side of humanity with unforgettable intensity.
