Jessie The Traitors: Inspirational Contestant’s Journey Ends in Dramatic Murder
The Traitors Claims Another Victim
Hair stylist Jessie was revealed as the latest victim to fall foul of traitors Rachel and Stephen in Friday night’s episode of the hit BBC show. The 28-year-old from Hull had become a fan favourite on the fourth series of The Traitors, not only for her game play but for her inspiring personal story and determination to challenge perceptions about people who stammer.
Why Jessie Became a Target
The hairstylist made the shortlist after Thursday’s episode saw her put the heat on traitor Stephen at the roundtable as she accused him of being the murderer in their midst. Viewers had been left hanging as to whether it would be Jessie, Matthew or Faraaz who became the next murder victim after they failed to win themselves protection. The decision clearly weighed heavily on the traitors, with Stephen exclaiming: “What have I become?”
An Inspirational Journey
One Faithful who has been quietly working things out and winning everyone’s favour all along is Jessie Stride. Not only is she one to watch (and a great Traitor hunter) but she’s one of the favourites to make it to the final. Beyond the game, Jessie did a speech course to help her stammer and it completely changed her life, so much that she went and auditioned for The X Factor with her own song about life with a stammer.
Impact and Legacy
It’s a win for inclusion and better representation of people who stammer in the media, something we’ve been pushing for with our recent campaign ‘No Diversity Without Disfluency’, according to stammering charity STAMMA. Jessie’s presence on one of the BBC’s biggest shows has raised awareness about stammering while proving that people who stammer can thrive in high-pressure competitive environments. Though her journey ended sooner than fans hoped, Jessie’s impact on The Traitors and viewers will be remembered long after the series concludes.
