Poundland Store Closures: Complete List of Locations Shutting Down in 2025
Major Restructuring Hits Budget Retailer
Poundland is one of the many retailers shutting down multiple shops in December 2025 in a blow to customers on the hunt for festive deals with Christmas only weeks away. The discount chain has been undergoing significant changes following its acquisition by Gordon Brothers in June 2025, which has resulted in a comprehensive store closure programme affecting dozens of locations across the United Kingdom.
Why Is Poundland Closing Stores?
The closure programme stems from serious financial challenges facing the retailer. The business has struggled in the last two years in an increasingly challenging UK retail environment, with increased operating costs from adding chilled and frozen products, introducing online sales, and increases in the UK National Living Wage and employer National Insurance contributions. As part of the deal, Poundland’s new owners pledged to invest £90million to rescue this business, but this would result in 68 stores and two warehouses closing down.
December 2025 Closures
Four more Poundland stores will cease operations for good in December 2025. The December closures include stores in Poole, Grimsby, Doncaster, and Hempstead Valley – December 31. Additionally, Cameron Toll is scheduled to close on January 20, 2026. These particular store closures from the brand are due to leases expiring, as per the restructuring agreement.
Previously Closed Locations
So far, 25 Poundland stores have already closed this year. Locations that have already closed include Twickenham, Westhoughton, Market Harborough, Lowestoft, Colne, Rochdale, Leicester, Tenby, Blackpool Cherry Tree Retail Park, Deal, Thurrock, Walsall, Hailsham, Perry Barr, Matlock, Carlisle, Burnley, Witham, Sidcup, Loughborough, New Malden, Peckham, Dalston, Beeston, and Launceston throughout October and November.
Impact on Jobs and Communities
The restructuring has significant implications for employment. Over 1,000 jobs could be at risk of the brand’s store closures. Before the closures, Poundland employed over 16,000 people across 792 branches in the UK and Ireland. The retailer operates around 800 stores across the UK and is looking to slash this number to somewhere between 650 and 700.
What This Means for Shoppers
For customers affected by these closures, particularly during the crucial Christmas shopping period, the loss of local Poundland stores represents a significant inconvenience. However, the company maintains that this restructuring is essential for its long-term survival and the protection of remaining jobs and stores across the country.
