Bury Football Club have appointed former Barrow AFC and Grimsby Town boss Michael Jolley as their new first-team manager following an extensive selection process, marking a significant milestone in the club’s ongoing journey of rebuilding and recovery. The appointment comes as Bury currently sitting 7th for their first season in the Northern Premier League – West Division (8th tier) with 35 points from 20 games played, demonstrating the club’s steady progress since their expulsion from the English Football League in 2019.

Jolley’s Impressive Credentials and Experience

Jolley arrives at Gigg Lane with a wealth of coaching experience. A Cambridge University graduate with an MA in Economics and a UEFA Pro Licence, he most recently managed in the fourth tier of Spanish football. His career spans multiple countries and levels of football, having worked across respected academies and clubs, including Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest, Lincoln City, Crewe Alexandra and Burnley, where he led the Under-23s and helped develop young talent. His first senior managerial role came in Sweden with AFC Eskilstuna in the Allsvenskan before he returned to England to take charge of the League Two Mariners.

Upon his appointment, Jolley succeeds Dave McNabb, who recently moved into the role of head of football operations as part of a restructure.
