Nathan Patterson’s Everton Future in Doubt as Transfer Interest Intensifies

Rising Transfer Speculation

Nathan Patterson, a Scottish professional footballer who plays as a right-back for Premier League club Everton and the Scotland national team, finds himself at a crossroads this January. Sevilla have reportedly joined the race for the Everton defender this month, whilst Lazio and Bologna are also monitoring the 24-year-old’s situation closely.

Having joined the Toffees in January 2022, the 24-year-old has failed to deliver on the immense potential that he had, and he now looks set to leave. Patterson has struggled with injuries throughout his Everton career, and he has only made four appearances in all competitions this campaign.

Injury Troubles and Limited Opportunities

Patterson’s Everton career has been significantly hampered by fitness issues. He has suffered seven different injuries in less than four seasons, with only one of them being minor. After suffering a serious injury against Chelsea on 15 April 2024, Patterson made his long-awaited return nearly ten months later in a 4–0 defeat to Manchester United.

Jake O’Brien has been playing in the makeshift position for the majority of the season, while Nathan Patterson continues to remain on the periphery of Moyes’ plans. The right-back situation at Goodison Park has become a priority area for manager David Moyes to address.

World Cup Ambitions Drive Exit

The Toffees are open to letting Patterson leave on loan until the end of the season, in order to give him the best chance of going to the World Cup with Scotland. With Scotland’s World Cup campaign approaching, regular playing time has become crucial for the defender’s international prospects.

Italian media outlet Corriere Della Sera reported that Everton made a move for Emil Holm in recent hours, offering money and Patterson in exchange. This potential swap deal could provide the solution for both Patterson’s need for game time and Everton’s search for a more reliable right-back option, making January 2026 a pivotal month for the former Rangers academy graduate’s career trajectory.
