Alexander Isak Makes History with British Record £125m Move to Liverpool

Historic Transfer Complete

Alexander Isak has completed his move to Liverpool from Newcastle United in a British-record £125m transfer, eclipsing the previous record of £115m that Chelsea paid Brighton for Moises Caicedo. The Swedish striker has committed his future to Liverpool by signing a six-year deal at Anfield.

Summer Saga Conclusion

The 25-year-old striker’s switch to Liverpool was finalized on deadline day for a British record £125 million ($170m). The transfer concludes a prolonged saga that saw Isak effectively go on strike while seeking a move, leading to his absence from Newcastle’s preseason and their opening three Premier League fixtures.

Impressive Track Record

Isak’s final season at Newcastle was remarkable, with the Swedish star scoring 23 goals and providing six assists in 34 Premier League matches. He also contributed three crucial goals in the League Cup, including strikes against Chelsea, Arsenal, and notably against Liverpool in the final as Newcastle ended their trophy drought.

Newcastle’s Terse Farewell

Newcastle’s farewell to their star striker was notably brief, with a 37-word statement simply announcing: “Newcastle United can announce the sale of striker Alexander Isak to Liverpool for a significant British record transfer fee. The Sweden international joined the Magpies from Real Sociedad in 2022 and made 109 appearances in all competitions.”

Isak’s Gratitude

In his farewell message on Instagram, Isak expressed his gratitude, stating: “I want to express my gratitude to my teammates, the staff, and above all, the city of Newcastle and all the amazing supporters for the three unforgettable years we shared together. Together, we have written history and brought the club to the place where it truly belongs. It has been an honour to be part of the journey from reaching the Champions League to winning the first trophy in over 70 years”.

Liverpool’s Investment

The transfer marks a significant investment for Liverpool, with Isak set to wear the No 9 shirt at Anfield. The deal takes Liverpool’s summer spending to £446m, with the club having recouped £228m in sales for a net spend of £218m.
