Billy Loughnane Makes History with Record-Breaking 222 Wins in 2025

Young Jockey Rewrites the Record Books

British flat racing has witnessed history as Billy Loughnane broke the 21st century record for winners in a calendar year after he registered his 222nd success on Invited at Lingfield Park on New Year’s Eve. The remarkable achievement by the 19-year-old has sent shockwaves through the racing world, demonstrating exceptional talent and tireless dedication to his craft.

Breaking Kieren Fallon’s Long-Standing Record

Kieren Fallon set the previous record with his 2003 tally of 221 winners and while Oisin Murphy came close with 220 victories in 2019, Loughnane has now surpassed that feat. The final days of 2025 saw Loughnane inch closer to the milestone, building momentum with victories at Newcastle and Wolverhampton before clinching the record on the year’s final day.

Before racing on Friday Loughnane had amassed an impressive 207 wins and a strike rate of 16%, beating his closest rivals Oisin Murphy (182) and Rossa Ryan (179). His dominance throughout the season resulted in Billy Loughnane securing the 2025 Annual Flat Jockey Champion title.

A Meteoric Rise in Racing

He was the 2023 British flat racing Champion Apprentice, twice British All-Weather Champion Apprentice (2022–23 and 2023–24), and British All-Weather Champion Jockey (2024–25). The son of trainer Mark Loughnane has only been racing professionally since October 2022, making his accomplishments even more extraordinary.

Looking Ahead to 2026

With potential Classic contenders on the horizon and continued support from leading trainers including George Boughey and Charlie Appleby, Loughnane’s career trajectory appears boundless. His record-breaking season establishes him as one of racing’s brightest stars and a future champion jockey in the making.
