Entries are open to runners aged 17+ on the day of the event, with a booking fee of £3.00 per entry applied at checkout.
The Iconic Route from Newcastle to South Shields
The race starts on the A167 close to Claremont Road, with 60,000 runners making their way along the 13.1 mile route to the finish at South Shields after a final mile-long seafront stretch. The route takes runners over the iconic Tyne Bridge, through Gateshead, and finishes at the beautiful coast of South Shields. The course presents varied terrain, with miles 1-2, 5-8 and 12-13.1 being mainly downhill, whilst miles 8-12 feature quite a bit of uphill during this four-mile stretch.
Special Features for 2026
The 2026 event features an exciting collaboration with Newcastle’s very own street artist, Mul, to create a unique identity. From the rush of the Red Arrows flying overhead to the oggy-oggy-oggy chants, Great North Run magic can be hard to understand until experienced firsthand.
