iPhone 17: Apple’s Most Ambitious iPhone Update Brings Revolutionary Air Model and Pro Features to All

A New Era for iPhone
Apple is set to unveil its next-generation iPhone 17 lineup at its ‘Awe dropping’ event on September 9, 2025, at the Apple Park campus in Cupertino, California. The announcement follows Apple’s traditional fall release pattern and will showcase the standard iPhone 17, an all-new ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air, and high-end iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max models.
Revolutionary Design and Display Changes
The 2025 iPhone lineup introduces significant changes, including larger display sizes and a new iPhone 17 Air model that will serve as a mid-tier device, positioned between the standard iPhone 17 and the Pro models in terms of price.
In a groundbreaking move, all four iPhone models will feature ProMotion display technology with a 120Hz maximum refresh rate, enabled by LTPO OLED displays. This marks the first time Apple has brought this premium feature to non-Pro models.
The Revolutionary iPhone 17 Air
The most striking addition to the lineup is the iPhone 17 Air, which features a “significantly thinner” design than current iPhone models. Early reports indicate a reduced battery capacity of around 2,800mAh, which is over 20% less than any iPhone 16 model, with the device expected to be 6.25mm thick.
Pro Models’ Advanced Features
The Pro models will introduce a new copper-like color option alongside Dark Blue. The iPhone 17 Pro Max will feature a slightly thicker design accommodating a larger battery exceeding 5,000 mAh. Both Pro models will be powered by Apple’s next-generation A19 Pro chip, manufactured using TSMC’s newer third-generation 3nm process, promising modest performance gains and improved power efficiency.
Camera and Connectivity Improvements
All iPhone 17 models will receive an upgraded 24-megapixel front-facing camera, replacing the 12-megapixel sensors in current models. The Pro models will feature an enhanced 48-megapixel Telephoto camera, up from 12-megapixels in previous generations, and will support simultaneous front and rear camera video recording.
Release and Availability
Pre-orders for the iPhone 17 series will begin on Friday, September 12 at 5 a.m. Pacific Time / 8 a.m. Eastern Time, with devices expected to release a week later.
