Monty Don Debuts New Series and First Chelsea Garden in 2025
Britain’s Beloved Gardener Returns with Fresh Projects
Monty Don, the cherished presenter of BBC’s Gardeners’ World, is embarking on an exciting new chapter in 2025, combining his passion for British horticulture with his love of dogs. His latest television show, Monty Don’s British Gardens, began on Friday 10 January and is comprised of five one-hour episodes exploring some of Britain’s best gardens. The series represents a significant undertaking for the 69-year-old presenter, who recently described it as “one of the hardest things [he’s] done” due to the homogenous nature of British gardens compared to the diverse landscapes he has previously explored.
A Comprehensive Tour of British Gardens
Monty visits 60 gardens up and down the British Isles in the series, starting in Scotland and Northumberland in episode one, before travelling across the north of England and Northern Ireland, then from Wales to Norfolk, and throughout London and the home counties. The ambitious project showcases iconic locations including Chatsworth, Battersea Power Station, and Little Sparta, whilst the series will show “what gardens can tell us about the country’s people, climate and history and ask if there is such a thing as a ‘British garden'”.
Historic Chelsea Flower Show Debut
In a landmark moment for his career, Monty Don has presented BBC coverage of RHS Chelsea for many years, this will be the first Garden he will be bringing to the show himself. The RHS and BBC Radio 2 Dog Garden will be the first garden at RHS Chelsea Flower Show to be designed by BBC Gardeners’ World’s Monty Don, whose dogs often feature on the programme. The garden celebrates the connection between Britain’s two great loves – dogs and gardens – and will feature practical elements including dog-friendly lawns with daisies, dandelions, and clover.
Future of Gardeners’ World Secured
Monty Don has confirmed that he will continue to host BBC Gardeners’ World for another two years (from January 2025). Despite previous speculation about retirement, the presenter remains committed to the programme filmed at his Herefordshire garden, Longmeadow. The famous TV presenter may have just finished his 26-date UK tour, An Audience with Monty Don, in December, but gardening fans have been enjoying the latest chance to get a glimpse of him. For British gardening enthusiasts, these developments signal that Monty Don’s influence on the nation’s horticultural landscape shows no signs of waning, with both his familiar presence on Gardeners’ World and exciting new projects ensuring his continued prominence in 2025 and beyond.
