Pluribus Season 2: Everything We Know About the Hit Sci-Fi Drama’s Return
Apple TV’s Hit Series Confirmed for Second Season
In a rare bidding war for the series in 2022, Apple won the rights to the series by Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan and immediately gave it a two-season order. This unprecedented commitment from the streaming giant has ensured that fans won’t be left hanging after the explosive season one finale. Pluribus is the most-watched Apple TV show ever, passing Severance and Ted Lasso, according to the streamer.
Production Timeline and Writers’ Room Update
While season two is confirmed, viewers will need to be patient. Gilligan tells Radio Times, “We’re lucky that we have a series 2 already in the offing. We’re going to open the writers’ room for that next week, about a week from today, as we record this.” Gilligan has also confirmed that the writers’ room will be reconvening around Christmas, with production set to kick off in the first half of 2026.
It’s likely that we won’t see Season 2 of Pluribus until some time in 2027. The delay is understandable given the show’s scope. Reportedly, “Pluribus” costs $15 million an episode.
What Season Two Will Explore
The season one finale left viewers with a major cliffhanger involving a nuclear weapon. Unlike previous Gilligan projects, the creative team has planned ahead. “We’ve got a pretty good idea where we’re going with it,” Gilligan tells The Hollywood Reporter after the Pluribus season finale about season two. Gilligan and his senior writers/executive producers, Gordon Smith and Alison Tatlock, confirm that they didn’t have Zosia deliver an enclosed atom bomb to Carol’s driveway without knowing what Carol’s future intentions are for it.
Long-Term Vision and Future Seasons
The showrunner confirmed he currently envisions a four-season arc for Pluribus. In an interview with Variety, Gilligan stated that he would continue to make Pluribus for as many seasons as Seehorn wanted. This commitment to star Rhea Seehorn demonstrates Gilligan’s dedication to the project and its lead actress.
The wait may be long, but with Gilligan’s track record and the show’s record-breaking viewership, Pluribus season two promises to deliver another compelling chapter in this unique sci-fi drama.
