Sheridan Smith Makes Triumphant Return to West End Theatre
Two-Time Olivier Winner Returns to Stage
Sheridan Smith is starring in Alan Ayckbourn’s psychological comedy Woman in Mind, which begins a strictly limited West End run at the Duke of York’s Theatre from 9 December 2025 until 28 February 2026. The production marks an exciting collaboration with comedian Romesh Ranganathan as Bill, marking his West End stage debut.
A Busy Year for the British Star
The acclaimed actress has had a remarkable year across multiple platforms. Based on the true story of Ann Ming, a mum who fought to get the 800-year-old Double Jeopardy law overturned following the murder of her daughter, Julie Hogg, Sheridan Smith took on one of the most challenging roles in her career in ITV’s I Fought the Law earlier this year.
A true all-rounder, Smith has excelled across stage, television, and film, equally at home in comedy, drama, musicals, and straight plays. Her versatility continues to captivate audiences nationwide.
Upcoming Projects on the Horizon
Beyond her current West End engagement, Smith has several exciting projects in development. Sheridan Smith will be leading brand new BBC crime drama The Cage which promises to be thrilling, witty and heart-breaking in equal measure. The show is set in a Liverpool casino where two workers discover they are both robbing the same safe.
Following its West End engagement, Woman in Mind will tour to Sunderland Empire from 4–7 March 2026 and Theatre Royal Glasgow from 10–14 March 2026.
Why This Matters for Theatre Fans
Sheridan Smith’s return to the West End represents a significant moment for British theatre. Her ability to tackle challenging dramatic roles whilst maintaining commercial appeal makes her one of the UK’s most bankable stage performers. With rehearsal photos already generating excitement, this production promises to showcase both Smith’s dramatic range and introduce mainstream audiences to Ayckbourn’s brilliant exploration of mental fragility through dark comedy.
