The total weight of the new structure is 75 tonnes with the largest component – the bridge deck – weighing approximately 15 tonnes. The new footbridge and lift system allows passengers to safely cross between platforms without navigating steps, a significant improvement for wheelchair users, parents with prams, and elderly travellers.

Local residents have welcomed the modernisation with enthusiasm. ‘We look forward to Uddingston Station returning to being one of the most attractive in Scotland with greater access for all,’ said Michael Hart on behalf of Uddingston Community Council. The station has long been known for its attractive appearance, with a volunteer group responsible for beautifying the station precinct with flower beds and hanging baskets since 2005.

The station’s importance as a critical transport hub was underscored by a recent incident. The incident happened at Uddingston just after 11am as the Avanti cross border service from Glasgow to London was coming into the station on 13 December 2025. Emergency services responded promptly, temporarily closing the line whilst teams managed the situation, demonstrating the coordinated response procedures in place for railway safety.
