A Milestone Year for Canada’s Premier Mountain Resort

The Resort Municipality of Whistler celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, marking five decades of big ideas, bold action, and an unwavering commitment to community. This significant milestone has transformed 2025 into a year of celebration for the iconic British Columbia resort, drawing both locals and visitors to commemorate Whistler’s evolution from a pioneering mountain community to one of North America’s premier destinations.

The community came together from August 21 to 24 to celebrate 50 incredible years of the Resort Municipality of Whistler — honouring the Trailblazers who shaped our past and the Tomorrow Makers leading us forward. The four-day festival featured live music, including performances by Sam Roberts Band, community activities, and cultural exhibitions that showcased the resort’s rich heritage and vibrant present.

Winter Season Success and Community Spirit

Beyond anniversary celebrations, Whistler continues to thrive as a world-class winter destination. On Friday, November 21, 2025, skiers and snowboarders climbed aboard the Blackcomb Gondola, riding to the Jersey Cream Express, where the Wishbone trail and an early-season hike park were open. The successful ski season opening marked the beginning of another exciting winter for the resort.

Fairmont Chateau Whistler was named Canada’s best resort by 2025 Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards, further cementing Whistler’s reputation for excellence in hospitality and mountain experiences. Meanwhile, Whistler’s New Year’s Eve brings people together with activities that invite you to move, connect, and take in the winter atmosphere, with the municipality offering free local transit to support community celebrations.

The celebrations continued through the fall with ongoing events and exhibitions co-hosted with resort partners including Whistler Museum, Whistler Public Library, Arts Whistler, The Point Artist-Run Centre, Whistler Writers Festival, WORCA and more. This winter we pass the anniversary torch to Whistler Blackcomb who are celebrating their 60th anniversary.
